McDowell Arts Council Association, Inc.
was organized on February 28, 1972 by a group interested
in promoting artistic and cultural activities in McDowell
County. Fifty-two members, meeting in session at the
McDowell County Public Library, discussed the possibility
of getting people with similar interests to work together
to enrich the cultural life of this area. Thirty five
years later, MACA continues to promote and nurture the
arts in McDowell County.
