Art Camp Exhibit/Reception June 20082010 Summer Art Camp July 12-16! A gallery show and reception for the young artists and their families will be held the following week. This week long camp is filled with an assortment of activities specially designed for children ages 5 to 10. Past classes included how to make sock puppets, basket weaving, clay art, batik, watercolors, music, yoga and more. Snacks provided. Scholarships available.

The Regional Artist Project Grant provides financial support to a wide variety of artists exhibiting exceptional talent in an effort to assist them and their professional career. This grant is intended to fund a particular project that will take place between 2010 and (dates TBA). Applications and guidelines will be posted mid-summer 2010.

Past McDowell County receipients have included Leslie Bradsher, potter, purchase of a slab roller; Marc Tomczak, potter, new displays for craft shows; and Susan Taylor, basketweaver, classes at John C. Campbell Folk School.

The Historic Carson HouseThe N.C. Arts Council created the Grassroots Arts Program to increase the state's already growing number of local arts councils and to help establish North Carolina as a leader in the national community arts movement. Grassroots funds support the arts council and local arts organizations.

Mr. Mickey at Nebo Elementary SchoolThe Mountain Arts Program (MAP) consists of North Carolina artists in residencies in McDowell County elementary schools for one week and supplemental art instruction for junior high and high school art classes. Students are also treated to performing arts programming at East McDowell Junior High School auditorium; Asheville Lyric Opera in 2009, The NC Symphony in 2010, and performances by professional touring companies.
