ACCESSIBILITY
AT MACA

"If I have to feel thankful about an accessible bathroom,
when am I ever gonna be equal in the community?” – Judith Huemann

PHYSICAL / MOTOR ACCESS

The front door entrance to McDowell Arts Council, located at 50 South Main Street Marion NC 28752, is located on street level.
On this level are our artisan shop, gallery, restrooms, permanent gallery, theatre, classroom spaces, and office.

Our front door opens manually to a width of 72 inches wide and accessways have a
minimum width of 36inches throughout our gallery and retail areas.
Each restroom has one stall that is ADA accessible and  doors that are push/pull with a 38in height.

Our theatre has dedicated front-row space for patrons & companions on ground level (no steps or risers).
We do not schedule public programming on inaccessible floors or areas of McDowell Arts Council Association.

VISUAL ACCESS

All text on our website is plain text, in accessible font styes, and, to the best of our knowledge, accessible for screen readers. We are in the process of converting our media posts to image descriptive and alt-text.

We are also installing audio descriptive hand-held guides for our permanent collection gallery at McDowell Arts Council. We hope to expand this access to all gallery shows.

VISUAL ACCESS

Written descriptors at MACA are printed in size 14 font or greater in plain font text.
COGNITIVE ACCESS

We continually strive to build programming that ensures access to the widest range of people possible. Each person is an individual and experiences the arts as an individual. If within our ability to do so, let us know how we can make
your visit fun and safe for you.

PARKING
We are at the mercy of Downtown Parking, which is mostly (free 2 hour) parallel parking on Main St. There is a cut curb with ramped access to the sidewalk directly in front of MACA.

There is a free public parking lot two blocks North of MACA, another behind our building beside Foam & Fabric, and a third at the Marion Tailgate Market.

SERVICE ANIMALS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME AT MACA

Service animals are always welcome at seated events at MACA, please just call and give us a heads up and we'll make sure to have a good seat reserved for y'all 828.652.8610
